(ENG) As-Salam Collective consists of three artists-activists who are deeply concerned with the current lack of space to learn Islam based on humanitarian, feminist, and egalitarian principles. They are FS Putri Cantika, Yuri Nasution, and Eliza Vitri Handayani.

Together they started As-Salam Study Club in September 2018, as a follow-up to another of InterSastra’s activities, House of the Unsilenced. The study club meets once a month and reviews Islam from the basics—the nature of interpretation or tafsir, the concept of monotheism, the life and history of the Prophet Muhammad, the concepts of the Pillars of Faith and the Pillars of Islam, the history of Islam, and so on. The club meets under the guidance of well-known Muslim feminist scholar, Prof. Dr. Musdah Mulia. Whatever religion, faith, gender, gender, sexuality, creed, color, or style of dress, anyone who registers and follows the club's ethical guidelines, can become a member and attend the meetings.

Now, As-Salam Collective creates artworks to help spread what they have learned in the study club. For Fashion ForWords, they designed clothes with progressive messages and symbols to counter the popular and increasingly uniformed narrative about Muslims in Indonesia, which often doesn’t make space for independent women and LGBTQIA+ communities, and show that in reality Indonesian Muslims have diverse styles and ways of life.
